Scary Fish is a fresh and dynamic
videogame developer specialising in game design, outsourcing,
and content production.
Our History
The company was originally established in 1999 as Thalamus
Interactive Ltd. by veteran journalist and games designer Andy
Roberts, an all-rounder with some 14 years’ industry
experience with a variety of high-profile videogame and
publishing companies such as Acclaim Entertainment Inc., Sony
Computer Entertainment, Future Publishing, and Imagine Media.
Having worked in a number of different roles, on several
triple-A products, he took the decision to start his own
company focusing on entertainment software for handheld
systems, and later, next-generation consoles. The aim was
simple: deliver quality products on time and within budget.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Scary Fish represents both a re-branding and a shift in focus
for the company, and has been established to capitalise on
industry changes over the last 12 months, not least the sheer
diversity of gaming platforms and the continuing trend of
larger Publishers and Developers outsourcing more of their
workload.
What We Do
Scary Fish is not strictly a developer in the formal
sense, more a resource point for companies looking to
outsource. We have always favoured the use of highly
experienced freelancers and satellite teams; now we’re putting
that network to use and offer a one-stop service to Publishers
and Developers, focusing on the smaller details as well as the
larger picture.
Such is our broad talent base, Scary Fish offer a complete
one-stop service: we can handle every aspect of development,
including Project Management, Scheduling, Design, Code, Art,
Audio, and even often-neglected materials such as strategy
guides and mini-websites. This allows Publishers and
Developers to outsource multiple assets to just a single
company.

Our Technology

Additionally, this wealth of re-useable technology allows us
to prototype potential concepts extremely quickly.
The Future
Though the company’s focus has always been on producing the
best possible results on current hardware platforms, we also
do a considerable amount of planning for up-and-coming
advances in technology. As well as forming strategic alliances
with Publishers and Developers, we are also in the process of
developing technology for a variety of mobile, hand-held, and
next-generation platforms. We’re also developing several
original Brands and IPs.
